Frequently asked questions
Intercom
What is the intercom?
A communication system for your crew, like the one used in TV production or theater: channels (Production, Tech…), positions (Director, Stage manager, Camera 1…) and a matrix that decides who listens and who talks on each channel. Everyone uses their phone as a beltpack.
What does each intercom member need?
Their phone with an up-to-date browser and a headset with a microphone (without one there's echo). They scan their position's QR code, type their name and they're in. Nothing to install and no account needed.
How many channels and people fit in an intercom?
Up to 12 channels and 60 positions per intercom, and up to 50 people connected at once on each one. You can have as many intercoms as you like: every connected person counts towards your pass, together with the audio guide listeners. If you need more, ask us for a quote.
Can I talk to just one person?
Yes. With “Call” you pick someone on the channel and a private line opens just for the two of you. Anyone who doesn't want calls can turn them off in Settings.
Can it connect to a wired intercom?
Yes, with the audio hub: a PC with Chrome or Edge joins the intercom as one more position and sends and receives each channel's audio through its sound cards. In the browser each card gives two channels (left and right); for more, connect several USB sound cards.
Can the audience hear an intercom channel?
Yes: any channel can be sent to an audio guide room and the audience hears it on their phones. Useful for interpreters, hosts or venue announcements.
Audio guide
Do attendees need to install anything?
No. They scan the room's QR code with their phone camera, a web page opens and they tap “Listen”. They don't need to sign up either.
What does the guide need?
A phone or laptop with an up-to-date browser (Chrome, Safari, Edge or Firefox) and an internet connection. They can use the phone's mic, although a lavalier mic or a headset with a mic sounds much better.
How much delay is there between what the guide says and what's heard on the phone?
Between 100 and 200 milliseconds under normal conditions: practically at the same time as the voice in the room. It depends a little on the quality of each attendee's network.
How many people can listen at the same time?
As many as your pass covers, adding up the listeners in all your rooms and the people on the intercom; rooms are unlimited. Without a pass, up to 5 people at once for free. See the sizes on Pricing and, for bigger events, ask us for a quote.
What happens if an attendee's connection drops?
The page reconnects on its own within a few seconds, even if they switch from Wi-Fi to 4G. It counts as the same person: it doesn't take up two places on your pass, and if they're back within 5 minutes they always get in, even when you're at capacity.
Does it work with the phone screen locked?
On Android it keeps playing. On iPhone, the page offers to keep the screen on while listening; if it locks, the audio comes back on its own when unlocked.
Can I have several guides?
Yes: one room for each guide speaking at the same time. Send each of them their room's speaker link; they don't need an account. If you'd rather they sign in with their own user, invite them from “Team”.
Does it work for simultaneous interpreting?
Yes: create one room per language. The interpreter broadcasts in theirs and each attendee scans the QR code for the language they want to hear.
What if the venue's Wi-Fi is overloaded?
The audio guide works just as well on mobile data (4G/5G), which tends to perform better in crowded venues. The listener page suggests it.
Pricing and payments
How am I charged?
With day passes, no subscription or commitment. You choose the size based on how many people will be connected at once (audio guide listeners and people on intercom positions, all together) and how many consecutive days your event lasts, and you pay once. The guide doesn't count, and rooms and intercoms are unlimited. Up to 5 people at once is free, no pass needed. See the prices.
What happens if more people connect than my pass covers?
You have a 10% margin: people can keep joining up to 10% above your pass and we'll let you know by email and in the dashboard. Nobody already in is ever cut off. Beyond the margin, nobody else can join until you upgrade to a bigger pass (if several overlap, the biggest one applies). The free tier has no margin.
When does a pass start and end?
It starts at 00:00 on the day you choose when you buy it and lasts the consecutive days you bought: it ends at 6:00 AM on the day after the last one, so late-night events don't get cut off. As long as it hasn't started, you can change the start day from your account area. If you have several passes at the same time, the biggest one applies.
Do I get an invoice?
Yes, one for every pass you buy, with your billing details. You can download them as PDF from your client area.
